STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Two gold medals highlighted the Harvard women's fencing team's success at the Garret Open hosted by Penn State this weekend, the Crimson's first competition of the 2010-11 season.
Junior co-captain and defending national champion Caroline Vloka opened her season right where she left off last year, winning gold in the women's saber competition out of 54 competitors. Freshman Alexandra Kiefer followed suit, winning gold in the foil at her first competition as part of the Crimson.
A total of seven Harvard fencers found themselves in the top 25 among the three different fencing competitions, including sophomore Nadia Eldeib, who was the Crimson's top finisher in Epee at 15th.
Harvard returns to competition for their only home match of the season at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 against Tufts at the Malkin Athletic Center.
