CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Adrienne Jarocki of the No. 2 Harvard women's fencing team has been named the National Rookie of the Week, CollegeFencing360 announced Wednesday afternoon, after leading the Crimson with a 13-2 performance at the St. John's Invitational.
Jarocki was an intricate part of Harvard's sabre squad that went 33-12 to pace the Crimson's 2-3 performance at the invite. The freshman swept her opponents against fourth-ranked Penn State, second seeded Columbia and No. 10 St. John's. She posted 2-1 records against No. 3 Notre Dame and No. 5 Ohio State, respectively. The Middle Village, N.Y., local finished the day with a plus-29 indicator after allowing zero touches against the Lions and only five in her three bouts on the strip versus the Red Storm.
At 8-3, the Crimson is off to its best start under head coach Peter Brand since matching that number to open the 2010-11 season. Jarocki has helped Harvard continue its home dominance with a 22-5 victory over Tufts Dec. 5 notching the team's 34th-straight win in Cambridge, and aided the Crimson's 5-0 record at the Tradition Tournament Dec. 8 with a 13-2 mark.
Harvard returns to action when the squad looks to capture its fourth Ivy League title in Providence, R.I., Feb. 8-9.
