CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior forward Kate
Buesser and freshman goaltender Laura Bellamy of the sixth-ranked
Harvard women’s hockey team have been honored as the ECAC
Hockey Player of the Week and Goaltender of the Week, respectively,
the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Buesser, who leads Harvard with 26 points and ECAC Hockey with 25
points in conference games, scored two goals and handed out an
assist in the Crimson’s 4-1 victory at Dartmouth Friday. She
broke a 1-1 tie with her first tally of the game at 16:32 of the
second period, which held up as the eventual game-winning goal.
Buesser, a native of Wolfeboro, N.H., later scored Harvard’s
third goal and assisted on the team’s fourth score, finishing
the game with a +3 rating.
Bellamy, a native of Duluth, Minn., earned both Harvard wins on
the weekend, stopping 55 of 57 shots faced (.965) in two games. She
recorded a career-best 37 saves in Harvard’s victory at
Dartmouth Friday, stopping all 17 shots she faced in the third
period, while holding the Big Green scoreless on five power plays
in the game. Bellamy then topped off the weekend with an 18-save
performance in the Crimson’s 2-1 win over Providence at
Bright Hockey Center. Once again, Bellamy kept an opponent
scoreless on the power play, keeping the Friars off the scoreboard
with three chances with an extra attacker. In six starts this
season, Bellamy stands at 3-2-1 with a 1.45 goals-against
average.
Harvard returns to action Tuesday, as the team hosts the 32nd
Annual Women’s Beanpot at Bright Hockey Center. Northeastern
will play Boston University at 5 p.m., while the Crimson will skate
against Boston College at 8 p.m.
