its 2011-12 campaign (Gil Talbot).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior assistant captain Laura
Bellamy of the Harvard women’s hockey team has been named the
ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is
the first time Bellamy has received a Goalie of the Week honor and
is her second league recognition as she was named Rookie of the
Week during her freshman campaign.
Bellamy helped the Crimson sweep the season series against Clarkson and St. Lawrence with a pair of strong performances last weekend. In Friday’s game against the Golden Knights, Bellamy was outstanding, recording her second-highest saves total of the season, stopping 29 shots in a 2-1 victory. The Duluth, Minn., native was equally as solid the following night against the Saints, turning aside 26 shots and helping the Crimson go a perfect 8-for-8 on the penalty kill for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
Heading into a crucial stretch of games this week, Bellamy in ranked in the top-10 nationally in a handful of categories. She is seventh in the nation in save percentage (.943), seventh in winning percentage (.833) and sixth in goals-against average (1.50). She is also backing the nation’s fourth-ranked defensive unit.
