CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior Jillian Dempsey and freshman Samantha Reber have been named ECAC Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday. It is the second time this season that Dempsey and Reber have claimed the honors in the same week. Harvard now has seven individual ECAC weekly awards to its credit this season.
Dempsey went on a goal-scoring tear last week that saw her post eight goals in just three games. Against Princeton Saturday, Dempsey posted a natural hat trick in the second period and went onto net five goals in the game, just one short of the NCAA record, held by Nicole Corriero ’05. The hat trick was the first of her career and she had a power-play goal and her second shorthanded tally of the season in the game against the Tigers. Her two goals against Quinnipiac the night before helped Harvard to a 4-2 comeback victory, and she also netted a goal in a 5-2 loss to Boston University in the opening round of the Women’s Beanpot.
Reber posted five point on the week with a goal and four assists to earn her second Rookie of the Week nod. Against Quinnipiac, the freshman dished out a pair of helpers and posted a +2 rating in a 4-2 come-from-behind win at Bright Hockey Center. The following evening, Reber notched a career-high three points on a goal and two assists in a 10-1 romp of Princeton. She currently ranks second on the team in rookie scoring and is 20th nationally in points among first year players.
The Crimson takes on Boston College tonight in the Women’s Beanpot consolation game, and then hits the road for games against Rensselaer and Union this weekend.
