CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Jillian Dempsey, a rising senior on the Harvard women's hockey team, was named to the preseason All-ECAC team, the league announced Monday. The ECAC also announced the preseason coaches' poll with Harvard coming in second.

Dempsey earned her first All-ECAC first team selection last season after being named to the second team as a sophomore and earning all-rookie honors as a freshman. She was the February ECAC Hockey Player of the Month, earned three player of the week honors and was a finalist for the ECAC Player of the Year award. The senior led Harvard in points (48) a year ago, while registering 27 goals and 21 assists in 30 games.

Most recently, Dempsey helped the United States U-22 team to a sweep of Canada in a three-game series Aug. 16-19. She registered an assist in the series for the red, white and blue, which was coached by Katey Stone, The Landry Family Head Coach for Harvard Women's Ice Hockey.

In the coaches' poll, Harvard was picked to finish behind Cornell, the defending ECAC regular season champion. The Crimson had 109 points and picked up three first-place votes. Cornell was selected to finish in first place by the other nine ECAC coaches.

"We're excited about the prospects of our team this year," said Stone during the league's preseason media teleconference. "We are going to have a little bit of a deeper bench, which will help us a lot. We look forward to being prepared, competing hard and playing exciting hockey."

Dempsey and the Crimson will open the 2012-13 season Oct. 26 at Quinnipiac.
