Jillian Dempsey of the No. 6-ranked Harvard women's ice hockey team was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week, the league announced today.  The award is the fourth player of the week distinction of her career.

Dempsey totaled six points in two games this weekend, including five during an offensive outburst at Princeton Saturday afternoon.

The senior co-captain got the Crimson's season started with a power-play goal in the first game of the year at Quinnipiac. Dempsey ran a give-and-go with freshman Mary Parker from the right boards, cutting to the middle where she beat the Bobcat's goalie to give Harvard a 1-0 lead. The goal proved to be the game-winner, as the Crimson blanked Quinnipiac, 2-0.

Dempsey played the role of helper in the beginning of the game at Princeton before adding two more goals of her own. She contributed three assists, all to Lyndsey Fry, to break Harvard out to a 4-0 lead in the second period. It was the second time in her four years that the Winthrop, Mass., native has given out three or more assists in a game.

In the third, Dempsey added to the Crimson's lead with a tally 54 seconds into the frame and scored once again two minutes later. The two goals gave her the 12th multi-goal performance of her career and a total of five points on the day, tying a career high. The only other time Dempsey accumulated five points in a game was when she scored five goals against Princeton Feb. 4, 2012.

The award gives Dempsey seven ECAC honors since she arrived in Cambridge. In addition to four player of the week selections, she was voted ECAC Rookie of the Week twice as a freshman and was named ECAC Player of the Month last February.

No. 6 Harvard will travel to Brown and Yale this weekend.
