Meet the Crimson: Samantha Reber

Each week, GoCrimson.com will take an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the members of the Harvard women's hockey team. This week features junior forward, Samantha Reber (Gil Talbot)

Why did you choose Harvard?
I chose Harvard because after I took my official visit, I got that knowing feeling that this is the place that I am meant to spend my next four years. Not only is the school obviously great, but the team here is unlike anything I have ever been a part of. Every day I realize more and more how much of a blessing it is to be a part of this Harvard Hockey family.

Whom do you model your game after and why?
I would say that I have always modeled my game after my two older brothers. Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to be just like them when it comes to playing hockey and looking up to them my entire life has been a huge reason why I have been able to get where I am today.

Is there any significance as to why you wear your number?
I have always worn the #12 and was lucky enough to be able to wear it here too.

What's your favorite pregame meal?
Well, for home games I always eat a grilled cheese, scrambled eggs, and cereal...really nutritious. But for away games, I usually do something along the lines of grilled chicken and/or pasta.

Do you have any superstitions before getting on the ice?
Oh yes. But usually when I tell people my superstitions I get some extremely weird and confused reactions.

What are three words you would use to describe yourself as a hockey player?
Smart, poised, perceptive. Credit goes to my classmates for these.

What/who are you listening to pregame, and why?
Miley Cyrus. There isn't anyone else to listen to because Miley is the best.

Where are you most likely to be found in the offseason?
In the great state of 10,000 lakes, usually on a lake and at cabins with my friends!

What is your favorite thing about Cambridge/Boston?
Getting to experience the Charles River every day is something that will never get old.

What other Harvard team do you enjoy watching as a fan?
I honestly love watching all types of sports! Especially here at Harvard because there are so many Varsity sports to go a watch. I love watching men's hockey in particular though because it's fun to watch their high level skill and speed, plus the atmosphere is also great. Also, softball is great because we are so close with their team that it makes it even more fun to go and support them.

If you could travel back in time, when/where would you go?
Back to the 90s because that was the best decade for many different reasons, including the many boy bands, fun toys, and great style of clothing.

If you could have a superpower, which one would you chose?
Probably would be invisible and/or be able to read minds.

What kind of legacy do you want to leave at Harvard?
Optimism. I want people to know that through everything, good or bad, positivity and optimism will help you get through whatever it is you're dealing with. Making sure you stop and look around and notice what and who you are surrounded by, specifically as a Harvard student, allows you to realize what things in your life should never be taken for granted.
