CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Sophomore forward Miye D'Oench, of the Harvard women's ice hockey team, has been named the ECAC Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. D'Oench picks up her first weekly honor of the season after a four-point weekend for the Crimson.
D'Oench helped No. 5/6 Harvard to two ECAC road wins at Colgate and No. 3 Cornell this past weekend. After falling behind 4-2 to start the third period against Colgate, D'Oench netted the first goal of the frame to spark a comeback as the Crimson found the back of the net two more times to secure the win. D'Oench also contributed two assists against the Raiders to lead all skaters with three points.
The New York, N.Y., native opened up the scoring in Ithaca when she fired a shot top-shelf past Lauren Slebodnick to give Harvard a crucial 1-0 lead 8:15 into the first period. The Crimson's 3-1 win at Cornell was the first victory in Ithaca since the 2008-09 season.
No. 5/6 Harvard improves to 14-2-2 overall, 10-2-1 in league play, and gained sole possession of first place in the conference standings with 21 points. Harvard is back in action in the comforts of Bright-Landry Hockey Center this weekend to take on ECAC foes Rensselaer and Union.
