CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Harvard freshman Brianna Laing has been named the ECAC Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. Laing's performance over the weekend, in two starts against Yale in the ECAC Quarterfinals, helped the No. 6/6 Crimson (23-5-4, 16-3-3 ECAC) to advance to the league semifinals in Potsdam, N.Y.
Laing backstopped Harvard to a pair of wins over Yale, including a 3-2 double-OT victory on Saturday. In that win, the second game of the best-of-three series, Laing played all 97 minutes for the Crimson, allowing just two goals to the feisty Bulldog team. She faced a total of 34 shots and steered away 32 of them to earn the grueling win. On Sunday, with the series on the line once again, Laing muted the Bulldogs, stopping all 30 shots that came her way to earn her fourth shutout victory of the season.
This season, Laing has compiled an unblemished 7-0-0 record for the Crimson, compiling 189 saves (.974 save percentage) to just five goals allowed (0.63 GAA). She and the Crimson will head to Potsdam, N.Y., on Saturday to face Cornell at 4 p.m. in the Semifinals in Clarkson's Cheel Arena.
