PROVIDENCE - The Harvard women's lacrosse team (8-5) improved to 4-1 in the Ancient Eight Saturday, downing Brown (4-8, 0-5 Ivy), 19-12.
Senior Marisa Romeo led the Crimson with five goals, while Caroline Garrity and Keeley MacAfee each had a hat trick. Junior Nekele McCall helped the Crimson maintain possession throughout the afternoon, gathering eight draw controls and two groundballs. The Crimson collected 20 total ground balls to Brown's eight.
After working to a 3-3 score through the first seven minutes of the game, the Crimson ripped off nine goals over the course of the remainder of the half to post a 12-8 halftime lead. Romeo ripped the back of the mesh four times during the Crimson's scoring stretch and MacAfee netted two to bolster Harvard's lead.
The scoring continued for Hard early in the second frame, as Garrity netted two in the first seven minutes and continued on to the hat trick with than seven minutes left in the half. Garrity's final goal of the half extended Harvard's lead out to 19-10 lead before Brown closed the final deficit to 19-12 before the final horn.
Harvard rounds out its home slate next Saturday, hosting Penn at Harvard Saturday during its Senior Day game and Alumnae Day game at 1 p.m. at Harvard Stadium.
