Caputo Takes Fifth to Lead Crimson Grapplers at Midland Championship
EVANSTON, Ill. – Senior co-captain Louis
Caputo finished fifth at the 47th Midland Championship at 184
pounds in his first wrestling match of the season for the Crimson.
The Blue Springs, Mo., native went 4-2 over the two-day tournament
to improve to 22-12 at the prestigious event.
Caputo won his first two matches before falling to fifth seed and eventual champion John Dergo of Illinois, 6-3. In the wrestlebacks, Caputo defeated Jerome Ward of Iowa State, the eighth seed and No. 12 wrestler in the nation, 3-1 in sudden victory. After falling to the three seed Phil Keddy, Caputo handed Grant Gramball a 5-0 defeat to place for the fourth time at Midlands.
Harvard finished 24th overall with 16.5 points.
The Crimson returns to action Jan. 8 with a pair of dual meets against Franklin & Marshall (5 p.m.) and Rutgers (6:30 p.m.) in Newark, N.J.
