Junior Walter Peppelman has been tabbed as the fifth-ranked wrestler at 157 lbs. after earning all-America honors as a sophomore.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard wrestling’s Walter Peppelman has been featured by InterMatWrestle.com in its 2011-12 NCAA Div. I preseason rankings, coming in as the fifth-ranked grappler at 157 lbs.
Peppelman earned all-America status as a sophomore at the 2011 NCAA Championships with his eighth-place finish and completed the year with a 33-9 record. His 33 wins rank seventh on Harvard’s single-season list while his 10 pins were the 10th most in program history. He earned his first trip to the NCAA’s by placing fifth at the EIWA Championships and also took fourth at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Peppelman faced 18 ranked opponents during his sophomore campaign, going 10-8 including a string of four consecutive victories over ranked opponents in Las Vegas.
Peppelman owns a 63-26 career record, needing 23 wins to break into Harvard’s all-time top 10. With 16 career pins, he is one fall short of entering the program’s top 10 and five shy of cracking the top five.
The Crimson opens its season Nov. 13 at the Binghamton Open. Harvard’s 2011-12 schedule also features trips to the Keystone Classic, Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and Midlands Championships, as well as five home duals in the Malkin Athletic Center.
