Peppelman went 3-0 at the Lone Star Duals to earn his first EIWA Wrestler of the Week honor (OAC).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior co-captain Walter Peppelman has been named the EIWA Wrestler of the Week, marking the second straight week the honor has gone to the Crimson.
Peppelman, ranked fifth in the country at 157 lbs., went 3-0 at the Lone Star Duals on Saturday, adding two more pins to resume to improve to 16-3 on the year with eight falls. His first fall came at the 2:47 mark against Appalachian State’s Chip Powell while his second came in just 29 seconds against Joshua Kreimier of Air Force. Peppelman also posted a 2-0 decision over No. 14 Matt Lester from Oklahoma for his first win over a ranked opponent of the season.
Peppelman is fourth in Harvard history with 24 career falls and is one pin shy of tying Joey Killar ’00 for third place. His 79 career wins put him seven short of the school’s all-time top 10.
The junior is the second Crimson grappler to garner wrestler of the week honors in as many weeks after Corey Jantzen earned the award last week. This is the first wrestler of the week honor of Peppelman’s career.
Harvard will be back in action Friday, Jan. 20 when it travels to Ithaca, N.Y. to take on No. 5 Cornell at 6:30 p.m.
