Four Home Duals Highlight 2013-14 Wrestling Schedule

Home duals with BU, Penn, Princeton and Lehigh highlight the Crimson's schedule (OAC).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Jay Weiss, The David G. Bunning '88 Head Coach of Harvard Wrestling, has released the team's 2013-14 schedule which features four home dual meets as well as trips to the Keystone Classic, Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and Midlands Championships.

"I am excited about this young group as they have gained valuable experience over the last two years for the tough competition ahead," Weiss commented. "We will once again be tested throughout the season by a difficult schedule which will prepare us well for the post season.  Everyone is on the same page and I look forward to where this journey will take us."

Harvard, which first competed on the wrestling mats in 1913, will be celebrating its 100th anniversary this season. 23 letterwinners, including eight starters, return from a squad which finished with an 8-5 overall record and won five straight dual meets to close out the year. Seven freshmen will bring added depth to the roster as the Crimson looks to build upon last year's momentum.

The 2013-14 campaign will get underway Nov. 10 at the Binghamton Open, marking the sixth straight season the Crimson has opened at the tournament. Three individuals finished on the podium last year, including Jeffrey Ott who placed second in his collegiate debut. Harvard will then head to the Keystone Classic Nov. 24 where Cameron Croy earned a second-place finish a year ago.

The Crimson will be pitted against some of the best competition in the country in December as it makes its 18th consecutive appearance at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational (Dec. 6-7). Harvard will also compete at the Midlands Championship (Dec. 29-30) for the 15th straight year, bringing a close to the team's early-season tournament schedule.

The dual meet schedule will kick off as Harvard visits Rider (Jan. 4) and Rutgers (Jan. 5) to open the New Year. The Crimson then returns to the area to take on EIWA foes American, Binghamton and Army at the Boston Duals hosted by Boston University Jan. 11, and will travel to Cornell (Jan. 18) the following week.

The Crimson will host its first home meet Jan. 25 when it welcomes BU to the Malkin Athletic Center. Penn (Feb. 7) and Princeton (Feb. 8) will also make a trip to Cambridge before Harvard heads back out on the road for meetings with Brown (Feb. 15) and Columbia (Feb. 21).

A home meet against Lehigh (Feb. 23) will cap off the squad's regular season.

The 2014 EIWA Championships will be held March 8-9 at The Palestra in Philadelphia, Pa. Harvard placed seventh at last year's tournament, marking the team's best finish since 2007, while a total of eight individuals finished on the podium, matching the highest number of placewinners in program history. The season will come to a close March 20-22 at the 2014 NCAA Championships, being held this year at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla.

For the first time ever, each of Harvard's four home duals will be streamed in HD quality featuring a live scoreboard, new graphics package and play-by-play commentary through the Ivy League Digital Network. Subscribers to the network can watch matches both live and On-Demand at their convenience, and will have access to live and On-Demand content for all home Harvard athletics events throughout the duration of their subscription.
