Wrestling Drops A Pair To Princeton, Penn

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard wrestling team (3-4, 1-4 EIWA, 0-3 Ivy) dropped a pair of Ivy League duals to Princeton (2-6, 2-0 EIWA, 1-0 Ivy) and Penn (8-5, 4-2 EIWA, 1-1 Ivy) on Saturday. Against Princeton in the matinee session, the Tigers came out on top with a 21-16 win, while the night cap Quakers prevailed, 20-18.   

Harvard 16, Princeton 21

Junior Nolan Hellickson (125) began the day for the Crimson with a 6-3 decision against Princeton's Matteo DeVincenzo. After the Tigers jumped on top with a pin at 133 pounds, sophomore A.J. Jaffe (141) answered with a commanding 14-2 major decision against Jordan Reich, to re-gain the lead for the Crimson. 

Senior captains Josef Johnson (174) and Kanon Dean (184) each picked up decisions the higher weight classes. Johnson earned his 20th win of the season following a 9-3 decision over Matthew Gancayco. Trailing by as many as six points in the second period, Dean battled back to the 10-9 decision over Kevin Parker.

Fellow senior Angus Cowell (285) picked up the Crimson's fourth win of the day with a 3-2 decision against Michael Markulec.

Harvard 18, Penn 20

In the nightcap, Harvard built a quick 15-3 lead. Sophojmore A.J. Jaffe (141) registered his second win of the day tallying his fifth fall of the season, pinning Jake Lizak with 42 seconds remaining in the bout. Classmate Hunter Ladnier (149) increased the Crimson lead with decisive 7-2 decision over Evan Deluise. 

However, the Quakers were not done and climbed their way back into the match with victories at 157 and 165 pounds to cut the Crimson lead to five. Senior captain Josef Johnson (174) widened the gap, grabbing his 21st win of the season with a 3-1 decision over Brian Krasowski, but it was not enough. Penn won the final three bouts to move on to the two-point victory.
