Melanie Baskind and the Crimson close out the regular season at Columbia Saturday (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior midfielder/forward Melanie Baskind of the Harvard women's soccer team has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District first team, it was announced Friday. Baskind, who is a co-captain of the Crimson, is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.

A native of Framingham, Mass., Baskind has now earned Academic All-District honors for the third consecutive year and received a nod to the Academic All-America team in 2010. A neurobiology concentrator, Baskind leads Harvard and the Ivy League with 24 points and eight assists and is tied for the Ancient Eight lead with eight goals.

Baskind has helped the Crimson to an 11-4-1 overall record and a 5-0-1 mark in the Ivy League this season. Harvard has clinched at least a share of the program's 10th Ivy League title and earned the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.

A three-time All-Ivy League selection and a two-time Academic All-Ivy choice, as well as the Ancient Eight Rookie of the Year in 2008, Baskind was a Lowe's Senior CLASS Award nominee this fall. She ranks tied for sixth in program history with career 79 points, is sixth with 25 assists and stands seventh with 27 goals.

Baskind is also an All-Ivy League lacrosse player as a midfielder and also serves as a tri-captain of the Crimson women's lacrosse team.
