Eight Women’s Soccer Players Earn All-Ivy Recognition

Gary, Purce and Washburn were selected to the first team (Gil Talbot and Penny Ashford).

PRINCETON, N.J. – On Thursday, the Ivy League announced the 2015 all-conference teams, and Harvard led the way with eight players earning All-Ivy recognition. Bailey Gary, Margaret Purce and Haley Washburn were named to the All-Ivy League first team; Lizzie Durack was selected to the second team; and Marie Becker, Rachel Garcia, Emily Mosbacher and Dani Stollar were on the honorable mention list.

Purce was a unanimous first team selection for the third-straight season after scoring  a league-best six goals and 14 points in Ivy play. On the season, Purce tallied nine goals and broke the 20-point barrier for the third year in a row. The junior closed the season on a seven-game point streak.

Gary was one of the top defenders in the conference, helping to lead Harvard to five Ivy shutouts while also scoring one goal and distributing four assists. The first team honor is the first All-Ivy recognition of her career.

Washburn earns first team All-Ivy honors for the second time in her career after also receiving the honor in 2013. The senior captain played a versatile role in central midfield, helping to anchor both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. She ended conference play with two assists.

Durack was named to the All-Ivy second team after posting the top goals-against average in the conference at 0.45 per game against Ivy opponents. Durack also paced the conference in save percentage and tallied an Ivy-best four shutouts. The award is the first All-Ivy selection of her career.

The honorable mention selection was the first All-Ivy nod for Becker, who helped post four shutouts for the league's top defense. The center back tallied one assist, and the Crimson allowed only three goals in league play.

Garcia was named an honorable mention selection in her first year at Harvard, scoring three goals on the season to go with two assists. Garcia ended the Ivy slate ranked third in shots per game.

Mosbacher earns her first All-Ivy nod as an honorable mention selection, tallying two goals and two assists on the season. The senior netted the game-winner at Cornell and finished the game-tying goal against Dartmouth.

Stollar was named an honorable mention selection after taking home Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors as a freshman last season. The sophomore lined up in multiple midfield positions and recorded two assists on the year.
