Purce, Durack Wrap Up Competition at Nordic Tournament

SHROPSHIRE, U.K. - Rising seniors Margaret Purce and Lizzie Durack wrapped up competition at the Nordic Tournament on Tuesday at Lilleshall National Sports Centre, with England topping the United States on penalties, but the Americans winning the tournament on goal differential.

The Nordic Tournament featured under-23 national teams from England, Sweden, Norway and the United States, and the event reached its zenith when Durack and England squared off against Purce and the United States for the championship.

The United States entered the contest with a 3-1 win over Sweden and a 2-1 victory over Norway while England toppled Sweden 1-0 and played even with Norway, 1-1, before winning on penalties. Durack and Purce were each featured as starters throughout the tournament, and were in the starting 11 for the final contest in goal and as an attacker, respectively.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw after regulation and extra time, and advanced to penalties, where England was able to advance. Durack made a pair of stops in the shootout to lead England to victory, but Purce and her teammates raised the trophy by virtue of a plus-3 goal differential through the three games.

Purce and Durack will lead a Harvard team that finished second in the Ivy League at 5-1-1 with the top defense in Ancient Eight contests.
