HANOVER, N.H. – The top-ranked Crimson women's squash team won its third and fourth consecutive matches to open the season at Hanover, N.H., Wednesday. Harvard, which started the season 4-0 for the seventh consecutive year and 18th time in the last 20 seasons, eased to victories over No. 8 Dartmouth, 8-1, and No. 12 Middlebury, 9-0.

All-American Laura Gemmell, a two-time Ivy League Player of the Year award recipient, made her season debut in the No. 1 position against Dartmouth and downed Corey Schafer, 3-1 (11-7, 11-7, 7-11, 11-1). Nirasha Guruge, Haley Mendez and Natasha Kingshott moved to the No. 2-4 positions for the Crimson and swept each of their matches against Big Green opponents. Harvard also received shutout wins from Sarah Mumanachit and Julianne Chu at No. 5 and 6, respectively.

The Crimson rolled past Middlebury, 9-0, in true sweeping fashion, winning all nine matches 3-0 in the nightcap. Gurgue, Mendez and Kingshott each remained unblemished through twelve games in three matches this season. Julie Monrad received her first start in the top-nine and capitalized with a 3-0 win (11-7, 11-6, 11-7) in the No. 9 position against Middlebury.

The Crimson will battle NYU at the Murr Center Friday at 5 p.m., before playing a triple-header against Amherst, Wellesley and Boston College Saturday. Harvard opens Saturday at 11 a.m. against Amherst at the Murr Center and then makes the short trip to MIT to complete the last two matches of the day.
