No. 1 Women’s Squash Remains Undefeated with Win over No. 3 Penn

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Amanda Sobhy won her first collegiate match, topping Penn's Nabilla Ariffin, 3-0, and the Crimson women's squash team rolled to a 7-2 win over No. 3 Penn Saturday afternoon at the Murr Center.

Including Sobhy in the No. 1 postion, Harvard's top three set the pace for the rest of the Crimson (8-0, 2-0 Ivy League) with victories over their opponents from Penn. Laura Gemmell topped Rachael Goh, 3-1, at No. 2 and No. 3 Nirasha Guruge overcame a 2-1 deficit to top Yarden Odinak, 3-2. Guruge won a tiebreaker, 12-10, in the fourth frame to even the score before dominating the deciding game, 11-6.

Gemmell (4-0) and Guruge (6-0) stayed undefeated this season along with teammates Natasha Kingshott, Sarah Mumanachit and Julianne Chu. Kingshott (6-0) won in the No. 5 spot, while Mumanachit (6-0) and Chu (7-0) won at No. 7 and  No. 8, respectively.

Senior co-captain Cece Cortes made her season debut and swept past Courtney Jones, 3-0, in the No. 6 spot.

Harvard continues Ivy League play tomorrow when No. 4 Princeton visits the Murr Center. The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
