Top of Ladder Leads No. 2 Harvard Women's Squash to 7-2 Win Over Trinity

Laura Gemmell continued her undefeated season with a four-game victory Wednesday night (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The No. 2 Harvard women's squash team dominated the top half of the ladder and knocked off No. 4 Trinity, 7-2, Wednesday night at the Murr Center Squash Courts.

The Crimson won the first five matches on the ladder and the final two to hand the Bantams their second loss of the season and improve to 10-1 on the year.

No. 9 Isabelle Dowling earned an 11-7, 13-11, 11-7 win against Chanel Erasmus, and No. 3 Haley Mendez outlasted Wee Nee Low, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7, 6-11, 11-3, at No. 3 to help the Crimson jump out to an early 2-1 lead.

Harvard took all three matches in the second rotation to lock up the match win. Laura Gemmell knocked off Catalina Pelaez, 12-10, 10-12, 11-8, 11-7 at No. 2, No. 5 Saumya Karki rallied past Robyn Hodgson, 8-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-9 and Julianne Chu rebounded after losing the first game to beat Jennifer Pelletier, 9-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-8, in the eighth position to seal the Crimson's seventh consecutive win over Trinity .

In the final rotation, No. 4 Michelle Gemmell made quick work of Ashley Tidman, 11-8, 13-11, 11-6 ,and Amanda Sobhy edged Kanzy El Defraway, 6-11, 11-2, 11-6, 11-3, to remain undefeated in her collegiate career and make the final margin of victory five.

The Crimson returns to action tomorrow at Dartmouth at 5 p.m. after the match was pushed up from Friday due to the impending weather.
