CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 1 Harvard women's squash team kicked off its national title defense with a 9-0 win against No. 9 Dartmouth in Ivy League play on Wednesday afternoon. The Crimson didn't lose a single game as every player recorded a clean sweep.
The Crimson (1-0, 1-0 Ivy) opened the 2016-17 season with a dominant performance, sweeping all nine matches on the day against the Big Green (1-2, 0-1 Ivy).
Sophomore Sabrina Sobhy cruised to a 3-0 victory at the No. 1 spot, while freshmen Gina Kennedy and Amelia Henley earned their frist victories as Crimson with sweeps at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively. Freshman Eleonore Evans also registered a sweep for her first win at Harvard.
Juniors Alyssa Mehta and Sue Ann Yong rolled to sweeps at No. 4 and No. 5, while sophomore Sophie Mehta posted her first win of the season in the No. 6 slot.
Senior captains Caroline Monrad and Dileas MacGowan posted victories in the final two spots for the Crimson. Harvard totaled three clean sweeps of opponents last season.
The Crimson will return to the courts on January 13 when it takes on Drexel in a road contest at 12 p.m.
