Strong Showing for Women’s Swimming at U.S. Nationals

IRVINE, Calif. –
The Harvard women’s swimming and diving team sent a number of representatives to the 2010 USA Swimming National Championships this past weekend at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center. In all, six swimmers represented Harvard at the meet while four other members of the Crimson squad swam for their club teams at the five-day event.

Kate Mills swam three events at the meet, turning in her best performance in the 200-meter butterfly with a 29th-place time of 2:15.55. Mills also placed 56th in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:20.44 and 75th in the 400 IM with a 5:00.34 mark. Catherine Zagroba also swam three events and put forth her strongest effort in the 800 freestyle, placing 81st with a time of 9:10.58. She also swam the 200 and 400 free events, placing 116th and 89th, respectively.

Meghan Leddy turned in a 28th-place result in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall in 2:17.22 and also placed 91st in the 100 back with a time of 1:05.78. Katherine Pickard swam the 400 IM and placed 103rd with a time of 5:12.87. The 4x200 free relay team of Zagroba, Pickard, Leddy and Kristi Korsberg placed 21st with a time of 8:38.14, and the 4x100 free squad of Zagroba, Pickard, Mills and Korsberg placed 32nd with a time of 4:00.90. Christine Kaufmann, Katy Hinkle, Dani Schulkin, Taylor Foster and Paige Newell also competed at nationals.
