The Crimson will look to capture its 9th Ivy League title after back-to-back runner-up finishes (Harvard Athletic Communications).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard women's swimming and diving team will host the 2012 Ivy League Championships and the HYP meet in Blodgett Pool, highlighting its 2011-12 schedule which was released Monday.
The Crimson opens its schedule Nov. 12 at home against Dartmouth and Cornell, the first of four meets to be competed in Blodgett. The team will split up in early December, as the swimmers head to either the Georgia Invitational or MIT Invitational while the divers travel to the Texas Invitational. The field at the Georgia Invitational will include four teams which finished in the top 15 at the 2011 NCAA Championships, including the defending national champion Cal Bears. The Crimson will reunite for a tri-meet against Columbia and Penn in New York City on Dec. 9 before heading off for winter break.
Harvard will begin 2012 with training trips to Hawaii and Puerto Rico before returning to action in Cambridge versus Brown on Jan. 14. The Crimson head back out on the road Jan. 21 for a tri-meet against Northwestern and Iowa in Evanston, Ill. Harvard will then close out its regular season at home Feb. 4-5 against Yale and Princeton in the annual HYP meet.
The 2012 Ivy League Championships will be held Feb. 23-25 at Blodgett Pool where the Crimson will look to capture their ninth team title. Harvard is coming off back-to-back second-place finishes at the meet after winning it all in 2009. Harvard also won the 2009 ECAC Championship and will look to reclaim that title as well following a pair of runner-up performances. The meet is being held this year in Annapolis, Md. Feb. 24-26.
The NCAA Zone Diving Championships are slated for March 8-10. The NCAA Championships will take place March 15-17 in Auburn, Ala.
