Women’s Tennis Travels to Waco, Texas for ITA Kickoff Weekend

The women’s tennis team is participating in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kickoff Weekend, the qualifying tournament for the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.

The Crimson faces No. 5 Baylor in the first round Saturday at 2 p.m. The victor will face the winner of the Brown-Nevada match on Sunday at 11 a.m. while the two losing teams will face each other at the conclusion of the morning match,

This weekend kicks off the spring season for Baylor, who closed out the 2009 spring season ranked sixth nationally. Senior Csilla Borsanyi, ranked No. 48 nationally, finished the fall season with a 9-2 record and won the HEB Baylor Invitational. No. 23 Lenka Broosova boasts a 7-4 record from the fall. She closed the season with a loss in the semifinals of the ITA National Indoor Championships.

Brown boasts two players who are ranked by the ITA in the Northeast Region. Sophomore Cassandra Herzberg is No. 2 in the region while junior Biana Abouakare is No. 16. The duo is the top ranked doubles pair in the region and hold a No. 29 national ranking.
