Cao Captures ITA Northeast Regional Indoor Title

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In the final round of
the ITA Northeast Regional Indoor Championship, sophomore Holly Cao
defeated Casey Herzberg of Brown, 6-2, 6-2 to capture the ITA
Northeast Regional Indoor title. En route to the final, Cao
defeated Melissa Saiontz of Princeton in the semifinals and Jessie
Rhee of Yale in the quarterfinal round. Cao will return to New
Haven Nov. 5 for the ITA Indoor Championships.
In other singles play, freshmen Sophie Chang, Hideko Tachibana and
Kristin Norton also advanced to the round of 16. Norton made it to
the quarterfinal round before bowing out to Saiontz, 7-5, 6-2.
Tachibana was defeated by Magdalena Ploch of Massachusetts, 6-2,
6-2, and Chang lost to Hertzberg by a score of, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Also competing in the singles bracket were Alexandra Lehman and
Samantha Rosekrans.
On the doubles side, the duo of Cao and Norton made it to the
quarterfinal round before falling to Molly Scott and Mary Beth
Winingham of Dartmouth, 8-6. Rosekrans and Tachibana made it to the
round of 16 before dropping to Hilary Bartlett and Taylor Marable
of Princeton, 8-6. Gridley and Lehman also competed in the doubles
bracket, but fell to Drexel’s Emma Brook and Gozde Unkaya,
8-2.
Up next, the Crimson will host the Harvard Fall Classic Nov. 6 at
the Beren Tennis Center.
