Women's Tennis Lands Three Freshmen for Upcoming Season

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women’s tennis team will add three freshmen for the 2010-11 season, as the Crimson will attempt to capture the program’s 19th Ivy League title and reach the NCAA tournament for the 15th time.

Harvard, which is returning nine players from last year’s team, finished 6-1 in the Ivy League and posted a 14-8 overall record in 2010 under Traci Green, who completed her third season as head coach of the Crimson. 

“I am very excited about our three incoming freshmen,” Green said. “They are all very experienced singles and doubles players, and they have the potential to develop into fantastic college players. Their entry onto the team should provide more depth to our present squad.”


Amanda Black/Cambridge, England/Hills Road Sixth Form College
Captained tennis team at Hills Road Sixth Form College ... Played hockey, netball, track & field, rounders, soccer and cross country at Melbourn Village College ... Winner of the Under-18 National Fred Perry Challenge ... Ranked as high as No. 22 in United Kingdom ... Member of the Women's County Up team, representing Cambridgeshire ... Current mixed doubles champion for British Colleges ... Winner of the Cambridgeshire's LTA Junior County Closed Sportsmanship Award and the James Booth Award for outstanding achievement and contribution to Cambridgeshire tennis ... Received the Governor's Award for outstanding all-round achievement ... Earned Sports Player Award ... Recipient of chemistry, physical education and mathematics awards.

Played varsity tennis and lacrosse at The Lady Eleanor Holles School ... Member of the England Under-19 and Middlesex Under-18A team ... Two-time school Most Valuable Player ... Recipient of Gold and Silver awards ... Helped team achieve top 10 ranking in United Kingdom in 2007-08 ... Lacrosse team finished section in national in 2008-09 ... Winner of Home International Championships while captaining England Under-19 team ... Winner of GCSE Prize in 2007 ... Best SportsWoman in school prize in 2009.
