CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard women's tennis team closed out its season-opening homestand in dominant fashion, blanking New Jersey Institute of Technology, 7-0, Friday afternoon at the Murr Center Tennis Courts.
The Crimson extended its winning streak to three games and posted its second straight shutout and third of the season to improve to 5-3 on the year. NJIT, which also entered the contest after winning its last two, fell to 8-4.
Harvard jumped out to an early lead behind strong play from its doubles teams. The top tandem of Kristin Norton and Hideko Tachibana shutout Ksenia Kuzmenko and Jana Luste, 8-0, to put Harvard on the cusp of earning the pivotal point.
At No. 2 and 3, both matches were significantly closer; however, Sylvia Li and Amanda Lin rallied past Natalia Melibeu and Carolina Zanotta, 8-6, to lock up the doubles point for the Crimson.

Lin led the charge out of the No. 6 position. She dropped just a single game to Zanotta in a 6-1, 6-0 win. Senior co-captain Norton was not far behind, losing just two, in a 6-0, 6-2 triumph against Martina Tripcovici.
Amy He continued her undefeated run, improving to 6-0 in 2013, by defeating Monika Graff, 6-3, 6-3, to clinch the win for the Crimson. Hideko Tachibana followed suit with her fifth win of the spring against Kuzmenko, 6-1, 7-5.
From there, No. 4 Hai-Li Kong and and No. 5 Li both earned wins to help the Crimson close out its third shutout of the season. Harvard also held Cleveland State and Binghamton without a point.
