Harvard Women's Tennis Cruises Past Syracuse, 6-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's tennis team wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a decisive win, 6-1, over Syracuse Saturday afternoon at Beren Tennis Center.

The Crimson (8-4) reeled off its fifth straight win at home and won for the seventh time in eight contests, while Syracuse (9-7) had its four-match win streak snapped in the first home outdoor match of the season for Harvard.

Hideko Tachibana and Kristin Norton continued their dominant play at the top doubles position for the Crimson, defeating Maddie Kobelt and Brittany Lashway, 8-3, to win their sixth straight match, while Hannah Morrill and Hai-Li Kong edged Aleah Marrow and Breanna Bachini, 8-5, at the No. 3 position to give Harvard the doubles point for the sixth consecutive match.

Norton pushed Crimson's advantage to 2-0 by sweeping Jimena Wu, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3. In the second position, Amy He topped Maddie Kobelt, 6-3, 6-4, to earn her eighth win of the spring campaign to put the Crimson on the verge of clinching the match. Hai-Li Kong locked up the win, outlasting Komal Safdar, 6-2, 7-6 (6), in the fourth spot.

Harvard would earn two more victories in three sets to round out the afternoon. No. 5 Sylvia Li rallied past Bachini, 3-6, 7-5, (10-4), and Amanda Lin topped Marrow, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 6 to earn her squad-leading ninth victory of the campaign.

The Crimson returns to action April 5 at Columbia at 2 p.m. to begin Ivy League play.
