Morrill Goes Unbeaten at Women’s Tennis Harvard Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.Hannah Morrill kept her unbeaten streak alive in the Harvard Invitational finale Sunday at the Murr Center. The captain notched a victory on the singles and doubles court to post a 6-0 record. 

Morrill partnered with freshman Monica Lin in doubles action to open Day 3 of competition. The senior/freshman partnership bested Illinois' freshmen duo Jerricka Boone and Louise Kwong, 8-3, to sport a 3-0 mark. Spencer Liang and Amy He also teamed up for a win. The freshman, sophomore tandem downed junior Julia Jamieson and sophomore Emily Barretta of Illinois by a score of 8-2.

Morrill's winning ways trickled to the singles court where the Twickenham, England native battled against sophomore Ammu Madnalap of Brown to post her sixth win of the invite, 6-4, 6-2. Danielle Mirda was the lone other Crimson to notch a tally in the win column in singles action as the freshman defeated the Bears freshman Victoria Traynor, 7-6(4), 3-6, 10-8. Liang dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to freshman Dayna Lord while Monica Lin fell to sophomore Hannah Camhi 1-6, 6-4, 10-8. Syliva Li rounded out Harvard's singles competitors. The junior was downed by Mariska Chamdani 6-0, 6-2.

Harvard will return to action following the New Year when the Crimson travels to Bloomington, Ind., for the Indiana Invitational, Jan. 18-20.

Day 2 - Saturday, Nov. 9 – Women's Tennis Picks Up Four Wins in Day Two of Harvard Invitational 

The Harvard women's tennis team went 4-2 on the second day of competition at the Harvard Invitational at the Murr Center Saturday. The doubles team of Hannah Morrill and Monica Lin remain unbeaten in doubles play while the senior and freshman also hold a 2-0 record in singles action. Freshman Spencer Liang joined the duo with an undefeated singles record.  

To open the day, Harvard faced familiar Ivy League foe, Brown, in doubles action. Morrill and Monica Lin bested sophomore Ashley Noyes and junior Nikita Uberoi by a score of 8-2 to pick up the Crimson's lone doubles win of the day. The partnership of Amy He and Liang were downed by sophomore Hannah Camhi and freshman Dayna Lord, 8-2, while Danielle Mirda and Amanda Lin lost to sophomore Ammu Mandalap and junior Sarah Kandath, 8-6. 

On the singles courts Harvard versed local rival, Boston University. Liang and Monica Lin each best Terrier sophomores. Liang downed Lauren Davis 6-1, 7-5 while Monica Lin defeated Johanna Hyoty 6-4, 6-3. Morrill picked up her second win of the invite against senior Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadias 7-6(4), 6-4. Amanda Lin battled against freshman Barbara Rodriguez, but came up short, 6-2, 6-2. 

The Harvard Invitational and the Crimson's fall season concludes tomorrow. Doubles action is set to begin at 9 a.m.

Day 1 - Friday, Nov. 8 - Women's Tennis Sweeps Day One of Competition

On Day 1 of the Harvard Invitational, the Harvard women's tennis team took the courts by storm when it swept its competitors in singles and doubles action Friday afternoon at the Murr Center.

Three Crimson partnerships faced off against teams from local rival, Boston University. Freshman Spencer Liang and sophomore Amy He secured the first win of the day when the duo battled to an 8-7(4) win against sophomore Johanna Hyoty and senior Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadias. Senior Hannah Morrill teamed up with rookie Monica Lin to defeat sophomores Lauren Davis and Madison Craft. The freshman/sophomore partnership of Danielle Mirda and Amanda Lin kept Harvard in the unbeaten column with an 8-5 victory over freshmen Barbara Rodriguez and Iris Lin.

Harvard continued its winnings ways on the singles courts. Monica Lin and Spencer Liang each bested Illinois' freshmen. Monica Lin snuck past Jerricak Boone, 6-3, 3-6, 13-11 and Liang downed Louise Kwong, 6-2, 6-4. Amanda Lin defeated Illini junior Julia Jamieson 6-4, 7-5 while Morrill setback sophomore Emily Barretta of Illinois 6-0, 6-2. Mirda was the lone Crimson to face an opponent not from Illinois as she downed BU's Craft, 6-3, 36-, 10-8.

The Crimson will return to the court tomorrow morning for Day 2 of its fall finale.
