Women’s Tennis Travels to Adidas Winter Invitational to Open 2014 Slate

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's tennis team makes the trip to the Hoosier State to open its 41st season of action at the Adidas Winter Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., Jan. 18-20.

Scene Setter
The invitational kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, with doubles action followed by singles play. Sunday, Jan. 19 begins and ends with doubles as the singles second round comes to a close in the afternoon of day two. The invite concludes Monday, Jan. 20 with the final round of doubles competition.

Scouting the Field
The event is being held at Indiana's Tennis Center and will see opponents from five different programs. Joining the Crimson at the invite will be Abilene Christian, host Indiana, Marquette and Oregon.

Last Time Out
Harvard welcomed Boston University, Brown and Illinois to the Murr Center Nov. 8-10 for the Harvard Invitational, the Crimson's fall finale. The three-day event saw senior captain Hannah Morrill notch three victories on the singles and doubles courts, respectively, to be the lone player on any team to boast an unbeaten record (6-0) at the invite.

Rapid Rewind
The Crimson is coming off a successful fall season in which it went 50-25 in individual matches and 28-13 in doubles play over the course of three invitationals and two championship tournaments.

Seven of the eight players that took the singles courts in the autumn hold a .500 record or better with freshman Monica Lin leading the way with an 11-3 mark (.786). Sophomore Amanda Lin is close behind at 7-2 (.777) while rookie Danielle Mirda (5-2) rounds out the trio with a .700 or higher winning percentage. Hannah Morrill has paired up with Monica Lin and junior Sylvia Li to make up Harvard's winningest doubles teams. Morrill and Monica Lin are the lone Crimson duo unbeaten on the court at 3-0 while the senior captain and Li have only dropped a single match to sit at 5-1.

In the Rankings
In the initial ITA College Tennis Rankings of 2014, the Harvard squad debuted at No. 68. Freshman duo Spencer Liang and Monica Lin represented the Crimson on the doubles list at No. 34.

Fantastic Freshman Foursome
According to TennisRecruiting.net, head coach Traci Green welcomed the fourth best recruiting class in the nation to Cambridge this year. The quartet competed to its potential in the fall as the rookies accumulated 30 singles victories, 60 percent (30-50) of the Crimson's wins in the fall.

On the Sidelines
Traci Green enters her seventh season at the helm of the Crimson. Under her guidance, Harvard won the program's 18th Ivy League title in 2009 with a 13-8 overall record and 6-1 conference mark. Green  owns a 62-55 overall record and a 27-15 mark in the Ancient Eight.

What's Next
The Crimson kicks off its dual meet schedule when it travels to Gainesville, Fla., Jan. 25-26 for the ITA Kickoff Weekend. Harvard takes the court against Missouri Saturday, Jan. 25 and will either face Florida or Louisville Sunday, Jan. 26.
