Women’s Tennis Clinches Sixth and Seventh-Consecutive Wins

Erica Oosterhout boasts a 12-6 overall record (Gil Talbot)

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Harvard women's tennis team clinched its sixth and seventh-straight victories this season with a 4-1 win over Texas State and a 4-0 win against Cal State Northridge Wednesday afternoon at Knollwood Tennis Club. The streak is the longest since the Crimson won eight straight in 2006 from April 7-26.

 
Harvard opened the day against Texas State, defeating the Bobcats, 4-1. Texas State's duo of Eva Dench and Alex Jones clinched the doubles point, tallying a 6-0, 6-4 win.
 
Four Harvard singles players surpassed Texas State student-athletes to give the Crimson a 4-1 advantage. Sophomore Erica Oosterhout defeated Pippa Carr in the No. 1 spot with set scores of 6-2, 6-1, while June Lee topped her opponent with set scores of 6-1, 6-1 in the second position. Annika Ringblom defeated Julia Navajo-Melende, 6-0, 6-3, in the third slot. Sabrina Xiong tallied a 6-1, 5-7, 10-4 win against Joy Chia Ming Ming in the No. 4 position.
 
Harvard faced Cal State Northridge later in the afternoon, positing a 4-0 sweep against the Matadors. Harvard sent Oosterhout and Lee to compete in the first position of doubles, downing Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei, 6-3. Natasha Gonzalez and Irene Lu were able to take down Skyla Alcon and Emma Roenholt in the second slot, 6-3, to give Harvard the doubles point.
 
Oosterhout saw action in the first position against Hsu, defeating her in two sets, 6-4, 6-0. Oosterhout improved to a 12-6 overall record, posting a 9-3 record in the first position. Lee faced Alcon in the No. 2 slot, downing Alcon in two, 6-2, 6-1. Lee now leads the Crimson with a 7-4 record in the second position. Ringblom faced Vivan Lin in the fifth positon, tallying a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Jenna Friedel, Gonzalez and Lu were unable to finish their duals, as the Crimson clinched the match, 4-0, with Ringblom's win.  
 
Harvard will conclude its West Coast trip against Santa Barbara on Saturday, March 18 at 11 a.m.
