A three-hour and 20 minute saga took place at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center at Texas A&M this afternoon. Senior Beier Ko started her match against Nadia Abdala of Arizona State at 1 p.m. central time and did not leave the court until 4:20 p.m., when Abdala defeated Ko, 6-2, 6-7, 6-4, to close out the career of one of the Crimsons all-time greats.

Eighteen It is a number that legally defines an adult. It is also a number that represents the running count of Ivy League titles the Harvard womens tennis team has. In a season of ups and downs, the Crimson forged through the month of April, going 6-1 in the Ivy League to win its 18th Ancient Eight championship in the programs 35th season. Harvard finished the year 13-8 overall, the programs first winning season and first Ivy title since 2006.

After aiding in a storybook ending against Dartmouth to claim Harvards 18th Ivy League title, senior Beier Ko is returning to the court as the lone representitive of the Ivy League at the 2009 NCAA Womens Tennis Singles Championship, hosted by Texas A&M at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. She will match up against No. 46 Nadia Abdala of Arizona State. This is Kos third trip to NCAAs.

She finished her freshman year much like her senior year -- with an Ivy League title. Senior Laura Peterzan captained this year's team to its 18th Ancient Eight Championship in the program's 35th season. She finished this season with an overall record of 11-11 in singles and a record of 14-10 in doubles, including a streak of nine straight wins alongside Camille Jania.
May 12, 2009 Beier Ko Named ITA East Region Senior Player of the Year
Harvard senior Beier Ko was named as the ITA Senior Player of the Year for the East Region, as chosen by Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Ko, who was the unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year, is the second Crimson womens tennis player to receive the award in the last five years. Courtney Bergman 05 won the award in her final season with the Crimson.
