Weghorst scored 11 kills in a win over Boston College to Earn Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors (Gil Talbot).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Freshman Grace Weghorst has been named the Ivy League Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week, marking the second time in three weeks the award has gone to the Crimson.
Weghorst helped Harvard to a 2-1 week as the squad improved to 5-3 overall. The Austin, Texas, native led the Crimson with 2.62 kps while hitting .224 and adding 1.25 dps. She is the second member of the team to earn rookie of the week honors after Corinne Bain was recognized Sept. 10.
Weghorst opened the week with a strong showing against UMass Lowell on Wednesday, registering six kills, a .556 hitting percentage, five digs and three aces as Harvard rolled to a 3-0 victory. The Crimson was defeated on Saturday at Northeastern, 3-1, but bounced back on Sunday for a four-set victory at Boston College. Weghorst scored a career-high 11 kills against the Eagles while adding five digs and two aces.
Weghorst shares the accolade with Dartmouth's Emily Astarita who registered back-to-back double-doubles including a 14-kills, 12-dig performance against No. 9 Minnesota.
Harvard will be back in action this evening as it hosts New Hampshire at 7 p.m. in its final non-conference match of the season. Fans unable to attend can watch all of the action live online through the Ivy League Digital Network by clicking here.
