Women's Water Polo Falls to No. 11 Hartwick

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Harvard women's water polo team closed out the home portion of the 2010 schedule with an 11-8 loss to No. 11 Hartwick. The Crimson sinks to 11-11 on the year and 1-2 in the CWPA Northern Division. Hartwick ups its overall record to 23-4 and 4-0 in the CWPA Northern Division.

The Hawks exploded out to a 4-1 lead after the first period. Harvard chipped away at the lead throughout the second quarter. Hartwick held onto a 7-5 lead at the end of the first half. The two teams traded goals in the second half and the Hawks were able to cling to the lead to claim the victory and the CWPA Northern Division regular-season title.

Kristina Bergquist and Monica Zdrojewski lead the balanced Crimson offense with two goals apiece. Lizzie Abbott, Devan Kennifer, Elise Molnar and Patricia Smith all tallied a goal in the game. Laurel McCarthy turned in a 15-save performance between the posts. Zdrojewski also added five steals in the contest.

Harvard returns to action tomorrow as it takes on Brown at Wheaton College to close out the regular season.
