Kennifer, Zdrojewski Receive CWPA Southern Division All-Conference Nods
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Harvard women's water polo juniors Devan Kennifer and Monica Zdrojewski were named to the CWPA Southern Division All-Conference teams Thursday on the eve of the 2011 Collegiate Water Polo Association Eastern Championship at Indiana University.
Kennifer was named to to the CWPA Southern Division All-Conference first team, while Zdrojewski received second team honors. The 2009 Northern Division Rookie of the Year, Kennifer claims her third consecutive first team award following nods in the 2010 and 2009 seasons. Zdrojewski notches her third all-conference spot as well as she previously received first (2010) and second (2009) team honors.
Kennifer enters this weekend's CWPA Eastern Championship leading the Crimson in goals (69) and steals (70). The junior co-captain is currently riding a 12-game scoring streak dating to March 18, during which she has notched 30 scores.
Zdrojewski is one of only three Harvard players with at least 20 goals, 20 assists and 20 steals this season. She is second on the team in scoring behind Kennifer with 50 tallies, has dished 20 assists on the year and has grabbed 41 takeaways. Zdrojewski is coming off a week where she received CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week honors for her performance against Brown April 20.
The sixth-seeded Crimson will face No. 11 Gannon in the first round of the CWPA Eastern Championship at 11:40 a.m. Friday in Indiana.
