CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Ariel Dukes of the Harvard women's water polo team was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Rookie of the Week, the league announced Thursday.
Dukes stopped 32 shots over the course of four games at last weekend's Harvard Invitational. The Winter Park, Fla., native had 10 saves, her most of the weekend, in a 13-8 win over Bucknell and also added an assist in the victory. The freshman totaled two assists and three steals during the four-game invite.
The honor is Dukes' first career CWPA award.
Senior Devan Kennifer was also named to the Honor Roll for Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week. The senior scored 10 times, added six assists and contributed 15 steals during the Harvard Invitational. Kennifer registered three hat tricks with four goals against Bucknell, three versus San Jose State and three more against Iona.
Against the Bison, the Monterey, Calif., native also had three assists and eight steals to propel the Crimson to a 13-8 victory. The eight steals is Harvard's single-game high this season.
Harvard travels to California this weekend as part of its spring break trip. The Crimson opens the trip, which consists of five games in six days, at UC Santa Barbara March 11 at 3 p.m. (EST).
