Women's Water Polo Falls To Pair of Ranked Foes at Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Harvard women's water polo team fell to a pair of ranked opponents Saturday at the Princeton Invitational.
The Crimson (3-2) hung with No. 4 California for a half, but the Golden Bears pulled away in the second half to earn a 14-5 win. In the second contest, Harvard's slow start doomed the squad in an 11-7 loss to No. 10 Princeton.
Shayna Price paced the Crimson (3-1) offense with two goals, while Victoria Frager, Aisha Price and Charlotte Hendrix each had a single tally. Aisha Price, Elise Molnar, Kalina Grabb and Frager each contributed an assist.
In the first quarter, the Bears took a 3-1 lead before outscoring Harvard by one in the second to go into the break with a 6-3 advantage.
In the second half, the Crimson saw the Bears pull away, netting four goals to Harvard's one in both periods to extend the advantage.
Ariel Dukes made five saves in goal, while Shayna Price made two steals defensively.
In the second contest, the first half proved to be the difference in a loss to the Tigers.
Aisha Price and Yoshi Andersen tied for the Harvard lead with two goals and two steals apiece, while Rachel Lobato, Molnar and Shayna Price rounded out the scoring. Hendrix, Andersen and Frager each had an assist.
The Crimson limited Princeton just two goals in the opening stanza, continuing a trend from opening weekend, but the Tigers kept Harvard in check to take a 2-0 lead. In the second, Harvard was outscored 4-2 to trail by four entering the break.
After the intermission, Harvard cut into the deficit, winning the third, 3-2, to trail by three heading into the final eight minutes. Princeton answered by tallying three goals to the Crimson's two to end with an 11-7 victory.
Dukes made seven stops in net for Harvard.
The Crimson returns to action Sunday at 9 a.m. against NYAC.
