PRINCETON, N.J. – The Harvard women's water polo remained undefeated at the Princeton Invite Saturday when the Crimson toppled Virginia Military Institute, 16-6, before returning to the pool to edge Iona, 13-12 in overtime.

In the opener, Harvard jumped to a 10-3 lead at the halftime to cruise to victory. Yoshi Andersen, who won the CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week award, led the Crimson offense with five goals, while Melissa Balding added four scores and Michelle Martinelli found the back of the net twice.

Alexis Del Toro, Charlotte Hendrix, Kalina Grabb and Victoria Frager each added goals for Harvard. Del Toro, Andersen, and Eela Nagaraj chipped in two helpers while Jelena Cyr had three steals and Zoe Osborne blocked two shots. Ariel Dukes tallied six saves in net for the Crimson.

Harvard finished the day against Iona, a familiar foe as the two teams met last weekend at the Villanova Invitational. Just like last weekend, the Crimson narrowly defeated the Gaels, 13-12, in overtime.

In the opening frame, Harvard was outscored, 4-3, before returning to the pool with an offensive outburst as the Crimson took a four-goal lead at the half. The Gaels came back in the third period on fire as the squad found the back of the net five times while shutting out Harvard to take a 10-8 lead.

With eight minutes to go, the score was knotted at 11 and the game headed into overtime. In the first extra frame, the Crimson found the back of the cage twice to take a two-goal lead before Iona closed the deficit to one when the Gaels scored in the second overtime. On the last play of the second frame, Osborne blocked a shot on defense to secure the win for Harvard.

Cyr paced the offensive with four goals while Andersen contributed three goals.  Dukes was strong between the pipe with six saves.

The Crimson returns to the pool Sunday, Feb. 9 to take on Wagner in the final game of the Princeton Invitational.
