CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Freshman Alexis Del Toro of the Harvard women's water polo team has earned Collegiate Water Polo Association Rookie of the Week honors after helping the Crimson to 3-1 showing at the CWPA/MAAC Crossover this weekend, the conference announced this afternoon.
In Harvard's CWPA/MAAC Crossover opener against Wagner, Del Toro tallied a goal and assist in the 12-11 setback. She helped Harvard rebound in game two as one of 12 Crimson players to notch a point en route to a 19-8 victory over Siena. The attacker found the back of the net twice, handed out an assist and added to two steals in the winning effort.
On the final day of the CWPA/MAAC Crossover, Del Toro helped the Crimson down Villanova, 14-7, and Iona, 13-7, with five goals, two assists and three steals. Against the Wildcats, the Laguna Beach, Calif., local notched two goals, two steals and an assist while registering her career-first hat trick along with a helper and steal in the tournament's closer.
The award marks the first of Del Toro's career and the fourth CWPA honor taken home by the Crimson this season. Sophomore Yoshi Andersen and senior Jelena Cyr garnered player of the week accolades while Michelle Martinelli earned rookie of the week nods.
