CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Freshman Melissa Balding of the women's water polo team was named Collegiate Water Polo Association Rookie of the Week, the league announced Friday.
The Costa Mesa, Calif., native netted two goals and handed out an assist as the Crimson powered past George Washington, 12-3, in the first round of the CWPA Southern Division Championships. Balding added a steal in a closely contested, 9-6, loss to Bucknell in the third place game.
The rookie has 35 goals, five assists and 13 steals to her credit in her inaugural collegiate campaign.
It is the fourth weekly CWPA Award for Balding, who was also honored on March 10, 17 and 31. Harvard earned the at-large bid for the CWPA Championships at Bucknell. The Crimson will face No. 2 Princeton on Friday, April 25 at 1:30 p.m.
