Harvard opens its 2010 season at the Iona Meet of Champions Sept. 18 (Gil Talbot).

The Harvard cross country team announced its 2010 schedule Monday. The schedule features 10 competition dates, as well as a preseason scrimmage at Iona Sept. 10.

The Crimson kicks off its 2010 slate with the Iona Meet of Champions Sept. 18 at Van Cortlandt Park in New York. Six days later, Harvard travels to New Haven, Conn., to take on Ivy League rival Yale Sept. 24. On Oct. 2, the squad will take part in the Wisconsin Inter-Regional meet and will send runners to both the Brown Invitational and the Pre-National Meet in Terre Haute, Ind., on Oct. 16. The Mayor’s Cup will take place Oct. 24 as Boston-area schools will race at Franklin Park and the Heptagonal Championships begin five days later at Van Cortlandt Park.

The NCAA Regionals are slated for Nov. 13 at Hammonasett Beach State Park in Connecticut and the IC4A/ECAC Championships are the following weekend at Van Cortlandt Park. The 2010 NCAA Championships will be contested Monday, Nov. 22, in Terre Haute, Ind.

“I am really excited about this year’s schedule,” said director of Harvard track and field/cross country Jason Saretsky. “It will give our student-athletes a great mix of competitions as well as some opportunities to race on a few new courses.”

Harvard looks to improve upon its strong 2009 campaign which saw the men finish sixth at Heps and the women turn in their best performance at the league championship since 1995 with a runner-up result.
