Maksim Korolev will lead Harvard to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1979.
NEW ORLEANS – Senior Maksim Korolev earned Northeast Region Athlete of the Year honors, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced today.
The Harrisonville, Mo., native won the NCAA Northeast Regionals with a time of 30:11.6 to beat out Iona's Matt Gillespie by over seven seconds. The harrier will be considered as one of the favorites at the NCAA Championships, leading the Crimson there for the first time since 1979.
Korolev also won the Ivy League title in record fashion and finished runner-up in an extremely deep Wisconsin adidas Invitational field.
New Mexico's Sammy Silva, who graduated from Harvard in 2013, won the Mountain Region Athlete of the Year.
