The Friend of the Year Award, sponsored by HRFWA (Harvard Radcliffe Foundation for Women's Athletics), is given annually to an individual (chair, volunteer, coach) of any Friends group whose hard work and dedication has served his/her Friends group in an extraordinary manner. We are pleased to announce that Char Joslin '90 and Sarah Leary '92 have been selected as co-recipients for 2015!

Char and Sarah demonstrate true passion, loyalty, and love for their sport. Both have been consistent and active supporters of Harvard Lacrosse since their time as undergraduates. In April 2015, these two extraordinary alumnae came together to spearhead the endowment of the women's lacrosse coaching position in Carole Kleinfelder's name. They garnered donations from 40 former players spanning three decades to raise the money necessary. Carole’s position represents the first coaching endowment at Harvard funded solely by women, the first to be named for a woman, and only the third women’s coach to be endowed. In addition to their phenomenal fundraising success, Char and Sarah also helped organize the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Harvard's 1990 National Championship. As the only undefeated team in lacrosse program history, theirs was the first Harvard women's team to win an NCAA title. Trailblazers from the beginning, with unwavering enthusiasm, drive, and great Crimson pride, we are honored to recognize both Char and Sarah this year.

A formal presentation will be made this fall, and a donation will be made to the Friends of Harvard Lacrosse, from HRFWA, in honor of their contributions.

HRFWA would also like to thank the six individuals who submitted nominations for this award. This year’s nominations represented a wealth of deserving candidates and underscores how blessed we are to have a talented and devoted pool of volunteers, alumni/ae, coaches, and friends.
