CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard Football trio of
Thor Griffith,
Ty Bartrum and
Jacob Rizy has been named to the 2023 New England Football Writers Association All-New England Team. The group was part of an Ivy League contingent that was 12 deep, a number that led all Division I conferences in the region.
Â
Griffith enjoyed a senior season that saw him finish with 55 tackles, including a team-high 11 for a loss, and a team-best 3.5 sacks. The Portsmouth, New Hampshire, native was part of a defensive line that helped the defense rank 20
th nationally in scoring defense and 22
nd in the FCS in rushing defense.
Â
Bartrum was part of the aforementioned defensive unit, playing in all 10 games at safety. A sophomore from Pomeroy, Ohio, Bartrum led Harvard with 78 tackles and three interceptions, while adding 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack. His three picks contributed to the Crimson's 13 for the year, which ranked 15
th nationally and first in the Ivy League.
Â
Rizy, meanwhile, was a stalwart on the offensive line, blocking for the Ivy rushing champion,
Shane McLaughlin, and for an offensive group that was one of the most feared nationally. Hailing from Westport, Connecticut, Rizy played a major role in the offense ranking first in the Ivy (20
th nationally) in scoring offense (31.8 ppg) and rushing offense (15
th nationally; 194.6 ypg).
Â
All three All-New England performers were named to the All-Ivy League First Team last week after Harvard completed a 2023 campaign that saw it go 8-2 overall (5-2 Ivy) and capture its 18
th Ivy championship.
