KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After a stellar junior campaign, Harvard women's soccer midfielder
Josefine Hasbo has been named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy. Presented every year to the most outstanding women's soccer athlete, the MAC Hermann trophy has been presented annually since 1967. Her appointment to the semifinalist list confirms Hasbo ranks among the top 15 players in the nation.
This is the first time Hasbo has made the semifinalst list for the most coveted individual honor in the nation. It is also the second consecutive year in which a Harvard women's soccer student-athlete received enough All-American votes to earn a spot in the top 15 after
Hannah Bebar achieved a spot on the list a year ago.
Continuing her run of dominance in 2023, Hasbo finished the year as the team's leading scorer, netting 10 goals and adding six assists for a season total of 26 points. Her performance helped her earn First-Team All-Ivy League and United Soccer Coaches First-Team All-East Region honors.
The Denmark native also was given the Ivy League Tournament Most Outstanding Player title after scoring four goals – including a hat-trick in the championship game against Columbia – to help Harvard clinch the first ever Ivy League Tournament Championship. Her effort in the tournament also resulted in a Top-Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week award.
Hasbo helped lead the Crimson to 13 wins during the 2023 season, the most for the program since the 1999 season. The team's remarkable run continued into the NCAA Tournament and included a convincing win over Maine in the first round at Jordan Field. The Crimson's season came to an end in the second round of the Championship in Provo, Utah after Michigan State snuck away with a narrow victory over Harvard.
Hasbo will now wait until the field is narrowed down to the finalists. Three women's players will be named for the award on Wednesday, Dec. 6. The 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 5, 2024, to formally announce this year's winners.
