Baseball Welcomes Eight New Players for 2015

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard baseball team will welcome eight student-athletes to the program this fall. All eight newcomers span the United States from Massachusetts to Hawaii.

Under the direction of third-year head coach Bill Decker, The Joseph J. O'Donnell '67 Head Coach for Harvard Baseball, the Crimson will look to improve on a fourth-place finish in the Ivy League's Red Rolfe Division. Harvard returns All-Ivy League selection Mike Martin in the outfield, along with standout pitchers Sean Poppen and Nick Gruener on the hill.

Austin Black | Lincolnshire, Ill. | Adlai E. Stevenson High School
Two-year letterwinner at Adlai E. Stevenson playing in the outfield … Played for Diamond Dawgz from 2012-14 on club circuit … 2014 team captain at Adlai E. Stevenson … 2013 and 2014 captain for Diamond Dawgz … Led high school team to regional championship as a junior, hitting .333 with a .481 on-base percentage … Missed senior season with a shoulder injury … Named to North Suburban Conference Academic All-Conference team … Graduated with highest honors from Adlai E. Stevenson, and was an Illinois State Scholar … son of Michael and Robin Black.

Conor Quinn | Amherst, Mass. | Deerfield Academy
Three-year letterwinner at Deerfield Academy in the Central New England Prep School Baseball League … Earned Arthur S. Williams Jr. Baseball MVP Trophy in 2013 … Named to honor roll six terms … Served as a peer tutor … Member of Untouchable Maybach Music Group … son of Marita Quinn.

Dylan Combs | Kailua, Hawaii | Punahou School
Four-year letterwinner at Punahou on the mound and in the outfield … All-League first team pitcher … All-State honorable mention pitcher … Named to 2014 All-West second team by Perfect Game USA … Voted Punahou most inspirational player … Three-year letterwinner in football as a wide receiver and kick returner … Helped team to three league championships, and one state championship in football … Named to All-State honorable mention team as a wide receiver … Received Punahou's President's Award for academics … son of Brian Combs and Leslie Matsukawa.

Garrett Rupp | Phoenix, Ariz. | Brophy College Preparatory
Two-year letterwinner at Brophy as a pitcher … Brophy team captain as a senior … Played for Arizona Dodgers Baseball Club for three years as a pitcher and first baseman … Named to All-Section III team at Division I level … Named Brophy most improved player in 2013 … helped Brophy to state runner-up finish as a sophomore … Named to Arizona Division I All-Star game and All-Academic All-Star game as a senior … National Merit Scholarship winner … son of John and Mary Rupp.
