CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Former Harvard baseball ace Shawn Haviland '08 won the 2014 Texas League Championship with the Midland Rockhounds this summer. Haviland, after missing all of last season due to Tommy John surgery, enjoyed a successful return season on the mound for the Oakland A's AA affiliate.
Haviland went 7-7 this season with a 3.87 earned run average at Midland. He was second on the team with 95 punchouts in 146.1 innings of work, a career high for the righty from Farmington, Connecticut.
The Rockhounds defeated the Tulsa Drillers in five games, forcing the deciding game after falling behind 2-1 in the series last week. With a 5-0 win, the 'Hounds captured their third Texas League title in the last 10 years.
