Baseball’s Buddy Hayward Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Harvard baseball freshman Buddy Hayward has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference today. Hayward made his collegiate debut this past weekend in Harvard's four-game series with Samford.

In game one against the Bulldogs, Hayward pinch hit for Austin Black and batted in two runs on a double in the top of the eighth to give Harvard a 4-3 lead that would force extra innings. Then, in Harvard's 15 inning win later in the day, the rookie pitched four innings, allowing just one hit and totaling seven strikeouts and zero walks.

On day two, Hayward connected on two of three at bats during the later game and scored Harvard's lone run on a Devan Peterson hit in the top of the fourth.

The Harvard baseball team returns to the diamond this coming weekend for a four-game series with New Mexico State. Games are set for Friday, March 2 at 8 p.m. EST, doubleheader on Saturday, March 3 beginning at 2 p.m. EST and Sunday, March 4 at 2 p.m. EST.
